This blog has been a long time coming. Why? I have been noticing over the years as I mail invitations for my clients how post offices will charge a different rate for the same package/envelope. I recommend to visit at least 2 post offices in order to make sure the postage rate will be the same.
- Letters (1 oz.) – 1-cent increase to 46 cents
- Letters additional ounces – unchanged at 20 cents
- Postcards – 3-cent increase to 33 cents
They clerks have several different forms for weighing the item such as:
- The scale
- Width measurer (measures how thick the package is)
- Touch and squeeze
The latter although "okay" should not be the only factor on how much a package should be charged. This in no way to discredit the postal system but please be mindful of how much your envelope will cost and hold your clerk accountable to make fair measurements.
